PSA Engineer (SCADA) - 6 months initially - Inside IR35 - Hybrid in Edinburgh
Hamilton Barnes are looking for an experienced, hands-on PSA Engineer - SCADA (Reliance) to join our client's team on an initial six-month contract with one of the UK's leading electric utilities. In this hybrid role (two days per week on-site in Edinburgh), you'll lead advanced Power Systems Application software development and delivery, working with ISOs/TSOs to author functional specs, design, code, test, integrate and tune(XA21 EMS/SCADA (or equivalent Siemens, OSI, ABB, Schneider platforms), and drive data modelling, system commissioning and operational handover.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the full life cycle of Power Systems Application software - gathering functional specs, designing, coding, testing, integrating, tuning, and deploying Reliance/SCADA modules.
Work closely with Electric Utilities, ISOs and TSOs to translate operational needs into clear, actionable software requirements.
Author and review detailed functional software specifications, ensuring alignment with project/product commitments.
Integrate SCADA/EMS components with existing transmission control systems and optimize performance in live environments.
Oversee deployment activities, configuring, commissioning and validating GE Reliance (XA21) or equivalent SCADA/EMS platforms.
What You Will Ideally Bring:
Proven track record delivering Electric Transmission EMS/SCADA projects.
Deep understanding of SCADA data flows, Distribution Management and Transmission Management Systems.
Strong ability to design and manage data schemas for Real Time and historical power system datasets.
Experience creating test plans and executing manual and automated test cases in an EMS/SCADA context.
Solid grasp of SCADA communication protocols (DNP3, ICCP, Modbus) and network architectures.
Contract Details:
Duration: 6 months (View for Extension)
Day Rate: Up to £500 per day (Inside IR35)
Location: Hybrid 2x a week in Edinburgh
