Quality and Commissioning Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced Quality and Commissioning Engineer with a strong practical background in cable or substation fitting. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment, has a meticulous eye for detail, and is confident in leading the final stages of project delivery, including snagging and commissioning. Ideally the client is looking for someone really experienced, with over 10 years experience.
Key Responsibilities
•\tQuality Assurance & Control
•\tConduct detailed inspections of electrical installations (cables, substations, etc.) to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
•\tIdentify and document defects, non-conformances, and areas for improvement.
•\tDevelop and maintain quality documentation, including inspection and test plans (ITPs), method statements, and quality reports.
•\tSnagging & Handover
•\tLead the creation of comprehensive snag lists prior to project handover.
•\tCoordinate with site teams and contractors to ensure timely resolution of snags.
•\tSupport client walkdowns and ensure all quality-related issues are addressed before final acceptance.
•\tCommissioning
•\tPlan and execute commissioning activities for electrical systems, including HV/LV equipment, protection systems, and control panels.
•\tPerform functional testing, fault finding, and system validation.
•\tCollaborate with clients and project teams to ensure smooth transition from construction to operational phase.
•\tCollaboration & Reporting
•\tWork closely with project managers, site engineers, and client representatives.
•\tProvide clear and concise reporting on quality and commissioning progress.
•\tSupport continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned.
Required Skills & Experience:
•\tProven experience as a cable or substation fitter with a strong understanding of electrical installation practices.
•\tDemonstrated ability to produce detailed snag lists and manage defect resolution.
•\tHands-on commissioning experience, ideally in HV/LV systems.
•\tStrong knowledge of industry standards (e.g., BS, IEC) and health & safety regulations.
•\tExcellent communication and documentation skills.
•\tAbility to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Desirable Qualifications
•\tNVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Installation or Engineering.
•\tCOMPEX, ECS/CSCS, or similar site certifications.
•\tExperience with SCADA, protection relays, or control systems is a plus.
