Quality Engineer

Purpose of the Job:
The Quality Engineer is a key member of the Quality Department, facilitating growth and ensuring robust quality controls and activities across the Wolverhampton site.
Key Responsibilities and Outcomes:
Active involvement in Customer Concerns/Complaints/Queries, driving root cause identification, corrective actions and preventative actions.
- Use problem solving techniques to investigate external and internal issues. Root Cause, Corrective & Preventative Actions: Problem solving techniques, internal and supplier issues.
- Create visual awareness of quality metrics and communication to the business. Work with the Quality Manager to develop KPIs to underpin objectives. Drive activities to meet objectives and communicate & engage effectively to the business.
- Devise methodologies for improving process inspection & verification. Work with the Operations team to improve inspection and verification through the use of control plans, visual SOPs, poke yoke, visual standards, quality alerts, gauges and calibration adherence.
- Develop and execute a process audit plan. Devise process audit format and plan to engage work force and identify non-conformities.
- Implement methodologies for establishing “cost of quality”. Scrap, defects, returns, complaints, non-value added activities. Identify, track and reduce through structured methodologies. Control quarantine levels.
- Create and Implement Quality Control Plans with the assistance of all the relevant team members.
- Internal Audit: Review the business to ensure adherence to departmental methodologies, processes and procedures. Conduct vertical audits in the business to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure timely management of internal and external system and product non conformities.
- Conduct and manage product/process and system audits.
- Support and facilitate continuous improvement activities within the site, working cross functionally with other Departments
- Develop and implement significant improvements in department wide processes, procedures and systems.
- Support NPI projects as required, working closely with other departments to ensure successful introduction into Production
- Deputise for the QHSE Manager as required
Qualifications
Qualifications & Technical knowledge
Essential:
- Minimum of 5 years relevant quality experience
- Experience within a Customer Facing environment, with knowledge of NCR management and utilisation of a wide range of Quality tools
- Understanding of various quality tools and methodologies i.e. PPAP, CAPA methodology, 8D problem solving, 5 Why’s, SPC, 6 Sigma (DMAIC), Lean Analysis, Pareto charts and statistical data
- Experience working in a prescriptive working environment; Oil and Gas, Aerospace, Automotive, Nuclear, Project, or Infrastructure.
- Experience utilising Lean Six Sigma techniques and methodology to improve operational performance
- Experience operating MRP/ERP systems
