We are looking to hire a quantum hardware engineer with experience in design, assembly, and commissioning of ion-trap or atomic physics hardware for quantum technologies.Location: Crowborough, Crawley, Haywards Heath, East Sussex, United Kingdom (multiple UK locations listed in the job description).ResponsibilitiesApply experience in ion trapping or atomic physics to design and assemble hardware for ion-trap quantum computing.Assemble hardware platforms, integrate control systems, and troubleshoot custom control software.Perform experiments in a laboratory setting, document tests, measurements, and system characteristics, and apply results to develop a mature product.Work with a multidisciplinary team of Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Physicists and Quantum Engineers.Assist in developing new concepts and technologies for future products.QualificationsExperience with laser cooling and trapping of ions.Experience assembling ion-trap and ultra-high-vacuum systems.Experience designing and testing laser, detection, magnetic, RF and microwave hardware systems.Working knowledge of precision-timed control systems and signal processing.Experience with quantum computing, quantum control and/or quantum information processing.Ability to perform simulation and modelling to inform experiments.Must-havePhD and ideally postdoc experience.5+ years (degree-inclusive) experience involving ion trapping, atomic physics, laser systems, ultra-high vacuum systems, detection systems, microwave technology, magnetic field environments.Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results in the field of research.Nice-to-haveKnowledge of surface ion traps.Knowledge of Ytterbium ion qubits.Proficient in Python.BenefitsCompetitive salary, equity options, unlimited holiday allowance, flexible and remote working options, 10% matching pension, generous parental support policy, private health/dental insurance, and relocation support.
