Job Summary

This is a newly created role within our R&D team, contributing to the development of innovative spectacle lens technologies for myopia control. This role involves leading optical design efforts, performing simulations, and conducting tolerancing analyses to ensure high-performance, manufacturable optical solutions.

Essential Functions & Accountabilities

  • Design complex optical systems for myopia control lenses.
  • Conduct optical simulation of new design concepts (MSF, PSF, wavefront error, scatter).
  • Define product specification in both surfaces-based and functional parameter space.
  • Conduct tolerance analysis to assess sensitivity in manufacturing and real-life use.
  • Work closely with clinical experts, regulatory and process development to align optical design with therapeutic goals and manufacturability. 
  • Support prototype development and testing.
  • Literature review for passive and active optical solutions for contrast management.
  • Automate data analysis flow to support R&D activities
  • Contribute to intellectual property generation and patent filings.
  • Prepare detailed design documentation and simulation reports.
  • Attend relevant conferences.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in Zemax or similar.
  • Experienced with Python or similar.
  • Experienced with numerical analysis, data processing.
  • Strong understanding of geometric and physical optics, optical design and tolerancing.
  • Prior experience in design of myopia management products
  • Prior experience in design of ophthalmic lenses.
  • Understanding of ISO standards in ophthalmic lenses.
  • Qualifications/Experience:

  • Master of PhD degree in physics, optical engineering, engineering or similar.
  • 3 year+ experience in optical design and modelling.
  • Experience in working in a team.
  • Work Environment

  • Ability to work in the office 5 days per week
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally is essential
  • Due to the global scope of some projects involving several time zones, the ability to accommodate meetings outside of typical daily work hours from time to time is required
