Working hours Full time 37 hours per week (flexible working arrangements including part time will be considered)

Salary up to £53,800 per year (depending on experience)

Location Howdon, Newcastle upon Tyne as well as flexible locations across North East region

We have an exciting opportunity for a Reliability Engineer to join Northumbrian Water’s Maintenance and Reliability Engineering (MRE) team. Reporting to the Reliability Engineering Manager, this role is pivotal in reducing equipment breakdowns across NWG’s Electrical, Mechanical, and Instrumentation asset base. By resolving recurring issues, applying predictive maintenance techniques, and refining strategies, you will improve asset reliability and support the company’s long-term goals.

Guided by advanced analytics, you will identify equipment failure trends and lead root cause investigations to deliver actionable recommendations. You will spearhead initiatives across the business and supply chain to embed best practices in asset maintenance, driving cultural change and fostering innovation.

The Reliability Engineer delivers industry-leading outcomes by applying technical rigor to asset management and developing robust maintenance strategies. Using advanced condition monitoring techniques—including ultrasound, vibration analysis, and current signature analysis—you will proactively prevent critical failures.

You will influence investment decisions to ensure sustainable, financially optimised outcomes aligned with business objectives. Leveraging your technical expertise, you will shape standards for design, operation, repair, and maintenance to address systemic issues.

About You

You have proven experience in maintenance and reliability engineering with EMI equipment, supported by a HNC or Degree in Electrical or Industrial Engineering.

You possess a strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and ICA systems, with advanced skills in fault diagnosis and implementing effective solutions.

You bring in-depth knowledge of drivetrain failure modes and expertise in troubleshooting, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

You are proficient in condition monitoring techniques such as thermography, vibration analysis, ultrasound diagnostics, and current signature assessments to optimise reliability.

You are experienced with advanced diagnostic tools and predictive analytics software, using data-driven insights to solve complex challenges and improve performance. You are skilled in Computer Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., Maximo) for generating reliability reports and analysing maintenance data.

You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders across all levels. You have a track record of leading cross-functional teams, mentoring technicians, and driving innovation to elevate maintenance practices.
