Join Balfour Beatty as a Reliability Engineer – Rail Plant
Are you passionate about driving performance and reliability in engineering? We’re looking for an experienced Reliability Engineer to join our Rail Plant team at Balfour Beatty. Based at our Hither Green Depot, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering a reliability growth strategy for our Rail Plant Fleet—ensuring optimal operational performance across the board.
In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with our Engineering Function and provide hands-on technical support to delivery teams, including fault diagnosis and asset improvement initiatives.
National travel will be required on an ad hoc basis.
What you'll be doing
Key Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
- Ensure all machines are maintained to the required quality standards.
- Ensure all staff are given technical support as requested (fault finding, technical guidance).
- Interrogate reliability data in order to identify trends and provide technical solutions where necessary.
- Ensure all machines have a reliability growth plan which is executed and is regularly reviewed and updated.
- Produce weekly/monthly reliability dashboards and statistics as requested.
- Ensure corrective actions (fault rectification) prevent repeat failures/issues.
- Attend various PDR (Plan, Do, Review) Meetings to represent your Contract.
- Provide support and guidance to the EDM/MM to ensure suitable spares and service kits are available to support the operation of the fleet.
- Complete maintenance improvements documentation as necessary through the Technical bulletin or Service bulletin processes.
- Ensure RCAs are complete and submitted with the support from the EDM.
- Manage NIR’s and fleet checks where necessary on equipment as directed by the CEOT/MM.
- Conduct and ensure regular quality inspections are carried out across the fleet.
- Produce and submit technical reports as required.
- Attend reliability forums internally and externally as requested.
- Install/assist with machine modifications as per approved service bulletins.
- Complete installation checklist on completion of modifications
The Following Qualities/experience Are Advantageous
- Experience of engineering and maintenance processes and techniques on Rail vehicles and plant
- Engineering Apprenticeship or degree qualified
- Experience in Reliability Improvement programs
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Excellent report writing
- Excellent Excel skills
- Financially numerate
- Good time management skills
- Holds full car driving licence
- Personal Track Safety
- Meets medical standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 and RT3451;
