Reliability Engineer
New Yesterday
Brompton is much more than a bicycle; it's a portal to urban freedom, a means to move around a city differently and to see it with fresh eyes. Over the past 50 years, we've become globally recognised as a British design icon, renowned for our craftsmanship, durability and sustainability. Small wheels with big ideals. Portable, foldable, unstoppable.
At the heart of our success are the ingenuity and resilience embodied by our founder. In 1975, against all the odds, Andrew Ritchie designed a folding bike like no other. After years of rejection, his invention found its place in the fabric of urban society. 1.2 million bikes later, with a retail footprint covering nearly 50 markets and with thousands of fan communities dotted around the world, Brompton is no laughing matter.
These days, our commitment to creating world class products remains unwavering but it's accompanied by a broader aim of creating greener, safer, cycle-friendly cities where people can feel more connected, more present, more alive.
If you're ready to unfold your imagination, expand your horizons and redraw your career map, read on to learn more about this unique opportunity!
The team and mission:
We strive to make products that are useful and dependable - tools for travelling in cities and beyond, made to last. The purpose of the Reliability team is to support the development and verification of new products, ensuring reliability is built into every design.
What you can expect in a Reliability Engineer role at Brompton:
- You'll contribute to functional specifications, based on a deep knowledge of how our products are used.
- You'll champion design-for-reliability tools such as DRBFM (design review based on failure mode) and DFMEA (design failure mode and effect analysis) within interdisciplinary project teams to ensure robustness and safety are designed in.
- You'll support development testing to grow reliability and build confidence as the design is matured.
- You'll design and evolve test methods and apparatus with consideration of technical specifications, test fairness and repeatability.
- You'll develop and deliver DVPs (design verification plans), including internal and external lab testing, and feed this information into project reviews.
- You'll physically perform product testing by meticulously following established test methods.
- You'll produce concise and coherent test reports - striving to minimise time between materials-in and information-out.
- You'll employ a scientific mindset and formal root cause analysis techniques to solve problems individually and as part of interdisciplinary teams.
Desired skills and experience:
- Engineering or science degree qualified.
- Experience in a mechanical product manufacture and/or development environment.
- Experienced in the design of test fixturing and apparatus. Ideally familiar with Solidworks.

- Workshop skills - drill press, manual lathe, manual milling machine.

You might not tick all the boxes, and that's okay, we still encourage you to apply.
