RTU Development Engineer

We are looking for a technically driven, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. You will work alongside engineering teams, operational stakeholders, system integrators, and suppliers to lead the successful development, deployment, and lifecycle management of Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) applications critical to Thames Water’s Operational Technology (OT) landscape.

Role: OT RTU Development Engineer

This role involves managing the full lifecycle of RTU application solutions across Thames Water’s networks, including design, configuration, optimisation, and support of standardised RTU architectures to enable secure, resilient, and scalable telemetry and automation systems.

Key Responsibilities

  1. RTU Application Development & Lifecycle Management:
    • Lead design, build, and configuration of RTU solutions.
    • Develop and maintain firmware libraries, templates, and configurations.
    • Manage RTU upgrade processes for security and maintainability.
    • Oversee RTU release management and testing.
  2. Technical Leadership:
    • Full software development lifecycle execution for RTU applications.
    • Write clean code using IEC 61131 languages.
    • Validate firmware and communication protocols.
    • Support RTU architecture development and integration.
  3. Project Support & Collaboration:
    • Support internal projects with RTU technical input.
    • Collaborate with system integrators and vendors.
    • Provide technical support and fault diagnostics.
  4. Stakeholder & Vendor Engagement:
    • Translate operational requirements into technical specs.
    • Coordinate with stakeholders and vendors.
    • Manage RTU documentation and standards.
  5. Quality, Safety & Compliance:
    • Ensure RTU systems are secure and standards-compliant.
    • Support cybersecurity measures and standards.
    • Participate in tender evaluations and product assessments.

Location & Working Pattern

Hybrid – Hampton Coal Wharf, 36 hours/week, Monday to Friday.
