Job Summary

KL Talent Solutions is supporting a well-established and growing engineering and manufacturing organization in their search for an experienced Senior Automation & Controls Engineer to join their expanding team. This is a hands-on, multi-site role working across several UK locations and a European facility. You will be responsible for maintaining, developing, and improving automation and control systems within a fast-paced industrial environment. The role involves PLC programming, electrical system troubleshooting, and implementing upgrades that enhance efficiency and reliability across operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial electrical and automation systems
• Develop and modify PLC code using recognized programming languages and platforms
• Integrate PLCs with HMIs, drives, sensors, and other automated equipment
• Identify and implement control system improvements to enhance performance and reduce downtime
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and maintenance records
• Support and mentor junior team members and apprentices in automation and controls best practices
• Collaborate with on-site and cross-site teams to deliver engineering solutions and support projects

What We’re Looking For

• A background in Electrical or Automation Engineering (Degree or equivalent experience preferred)
• Strong practical knowledge of PLC programming (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text, FBD, SFC)
• Solid understanding of industrial electrical systems and control circuits
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation
• Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset
• Flexibility to travel between multiple UK sites and occasionally to European locations
