We also equip researchers to find the causes of disease and develop new treatments – with patients and participants at the heart of it all.\n\nOur mission is to continue refining, scaling, and evolving our ability to enable others to deliver genomic healthcare and conduct genomic research.\n\nWe are accelerating our impact and working with patients, doctors, scientists, government and industry to improve genomic testing, and help researchers access the health data and technology they need to make new medical discoveries and create more effective, targeted medicines for everybody.\n\n\n\nWe are currently recruiting for a Senior Bioinformatics Engineer to join us here at Genomics England.\n\nOur Senior Bioinformatics Engineers are experienced software engineers with extensive expertise in bioinformatics. They provide technical leadership at a squad level, promote best practices, mentoring colleagues and develop production-grade software to address complex bioinformatics challenges. \n\n Everyday responsibilities include: \n\nProviding technical support and leadership for squad-level projects.\nInitiating new projects and continuous improvement initiatives.\nParticipating in hiring across the chapter and directorate.\nProducing high-quality, production-standard code.\nLeading inclusive, high-performing project teams, ensuring the right skills are in place to deliver our mission.\nEnsuring compliance with SOPs, ISO standards, and regulatory requirements. \nEmbodying and promoting our leadership behaviours in all aspects of your role.\nHelping set clear stretch goals for teams and individuals \nEnsuring team goals, PDRs, and Career Frameworks are completed Skills and experience for success: \n\nAbility to make reasoned assessments supported by evidence, experience, or knowledge to propose or challenge ideas and make decisions.\nStrong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.\nExperience with best practices in relevant areas including software engineering, bioinformatics tooling and testing. \nStrong command of object-oriented programming and software design principles. \nProven experience in coaching, mentoring, and motivating team members inclusively.\nProficiency in bioinformatics tools, file formats, and standards (e.g., GA4GH, nf-core). \n\nQualifications\n\nMSc equivalent or higher in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Bioinformatics or equivalent experience. \n\nAdditional Information\n\nSalary from: £68,500\n\nClosing date for applications - Monday 13th October.\n\nBeing an integral part of such a meaningful mission is extremely rewarding in itself, but in order to support our people, we’re continually improving our benefits package.
