Role purpose

As a Senior Bridge Engineer, you will apply technical skills and structural knowledge to translate understanding of structural behaviours and analytical techniques into effective analyses and designs. You will support the analysis and design of complex bridges and related structures, work with industry codes (including Eurocodes), and guide teams in analysis and design while communicating effectively with clients and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality design documentation including option appraisals, drawings, calculations, reports, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Analyse, design, and assess bridges and related structures using standard industry software (e.g., LUSAS, MIDAS).
  • Guide project teams in structural analysis and communicate with clients and stakeholders in person or in meetings.

Candidate specification

Essential
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng/MEng, MSc or equivalent).
  • Chartered Engineer (ICE/IStructE).
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality design documentation (option appraisals, drawings, calculations, reports, specifications, and construction documentation).
  • Experience in bridge analysis, design, and assessment; ability to oversee analysis using industry software (e.g., LUSAS, MIDAS).
  • Commercial and financial awareness; ability to plan and monitor programmes, budgets, and resources to meet time and cost constraints.
  • Experience and commitment to health, safety and welfare, Safety by Design.
Desirable
  • Preparation and review of technical approval documentation for highway and rail structures.
  • Experience in managing project teams and providing technical leadership.
  • Experience in preparing fee proposals and tender submissions.
  • Experience with digital delivery tools and workflows (e.g., BIM, parametric design, automation).
