Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer – Building Services (Senior Building Services Design Engineer - Mechanical) with Jacobs. This role supports multi-disciplinary UK buildings projects in our Birmingham, London or Manchester offices and involves refurbishment and new build projects across sectors such as High-rise Residential, District Energy Systems, Aviation, Transport, Energy and Power, Water, Data Centres, healthcare and more.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the functional delivery of projects—often multidisciplinary—ensuring they meet scope, time, cost, and quality expectations.
  • Act as a role model, supporting junior staff, contributing to team development, resource planning, and continuous improvement.
  • Take ownership of work, guide others from planning and prioritising tasks to checking calculations and ensuring high-quality outputs.
  • Manage scope, fees, and client communication to identify value-adding opportunities and manage expectations.
  • Mentor colleagues, promote diversity and inclusion, and support strategic activities such as recruitment, budgeting, and policy development.
  • Represent Jacobs in client meetings, strengthen relationships, and contribute to winning future work.
  • Work within Jacobs’ pipeline of high-impact projects across the globe, with focus in the Middle East, aviation, and power and water infrastructure sectors.

Qualifications

  • Proven relevant project design experience in building services mechanical engineering
  • Degree in Building Services Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Proficient in Revit MEP, AutoCAD, IES VE, and building regulation compliance assessments
  • MCIBSE / MIET C Eng accreditation (or actively working towards it)
  • Strong knowledge of UK building regulations
  • Experience in sustainable technology integration
  • Proven project leadership and people management capabilities
  • Excellent technical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to deliver high-quality, innovative solutions in a multidisciplinary environment

Role Requirements and Environment

  • This is a hybrid role requiring 2 to 3 days in the office including client site visits.
  • Travel opportunities may be available for projects beyond local environments.
