Position: Senior Civil and Structural Engineer
Location: Knutsford, Cheshire
Hours: 40 hours per week
Duration: 6 months + (ongoing likely)
Rate: £50 – £65 Ltd per hour
Company Size: SME (Small–Medium Enterprise)
Working Pattern: Hybrid (3 days per week in the office, 2 days per week from home)
Role Overview Reporting to the Lead Civil and Structural Engineer, the Senior Civil and Structural Engineer will be responsible for producing Civil and Structural engineering designs and assisting in the production of drawings. The role also involves mentoring junior staff, supervising drawing production, and quality-checking engineering calculations.
Key Responsibilities As a Senior Civil and Structural Engineer, you will:
Develop detailed civil and structural designs.
Review geotechnical data to inform decision-making.
Produce calculations, drawings, and design documentation.
Lead and contribute to design reviews.
Manage stakeholder relationships effectively.
Assess environmental impacts and risks associated with projects.
Analyse survey, mapping, and materials testing data with computer modelling software.
Prepare and issue deliverables in line with project schedules.
Coordinate with other engineering disciplines as required.
Attend site surveys when necessary.
Provide on-site construction and commissioning support when required.
Minimum Requirements Education & Professional Background
Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
Chartered status (or working towards).
Must hold and maintain SC clearance.
Technical Experience
Significant experience in design and engineering, preferably within Industrial/Petrochemical sectors, including interaction with Piping teams.
Expert knowledge of applicable Eurocodes for various material types.
Strong experience with 2D and 3D analytical packages such as Tekla Structural Designer (TSD) and TEDDS (other software experience considered with willingness to transition to TSD).
Experience in safety-critical or regulated environments.
Familiarity with engineering standards, specifications, and Safety Case requirements.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit (advantageous).
Skilled in Office 365, including OneDrive, SharePoint, Word, and Excel.
Additional Skills
Experience mentoring or developing junior staff.
Understanding of Designer and Principal Designer roles under CDM regulations.
Eligible to live and work in the UK.
Full UK/EEC driving licence.
