What You’ll Do

  • Pave a path for data as a product: champion data as a first-class citizen by introducing robust data observability and governance tooling into the platform
  • Software Engineering: Develop microservices, libraries, data pipelines
  • Technical Design: implement and evolve platform services to enable teams to work with data efficiently and securely, using modern tooling such as Kafka, Terraform, Docker, and cloud-native patterns
  • Lead Technological Initiatives: lead initiatives with end users (data scientists, ML engineers, analytics engineers, product engineers and beyond) to enable, support and accelerate data needs, embracing a platform-as-product mindset
  • Uphold operational excellence: build scalable services, lead incident response and root cause analysis, and continuously improve health and performance of the data platform; promote scalable best practices through automation and documentation
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: work with technical and non-technical stakeholders to design and implement Data Platform solutions; build trusted relationships
  • Invest in others’ growth: mentor and share knowledge to elevate technical standards
  • Build on engineering culture: actively contribute to improving the engineering culture at Depop

What You’ll Bring

  • Streaming Knowledge: experience with Kafka/Flink/Confluent or other streaming ecosystems
  • Advanced programming: Python or Scala with solid software engineering practices
  • Experience delivering data compliance and privacy solutions
  • Experience building data governance and observability stacks with data lineage, contracts, SLA/SLO, tagging and data quality monitoring
  • Proven experience designing, building, and scaling data platforms and backend infrastructure for advanced data users
  • Big data technologies: Airflow, dbt, Kafka, Databricks and data observability/catalog solutions (e.g., Monte Carlo, Atlan, Datahub)
  • Cloud platform proficiency: AWS, GCP, or Azure with hands-on data solutions experience
  • Desire to learn new technologies; dedicated time for growth and development

Nice To Have

  • Knowledge of systems design in a modern cloud-based environment
  • Experience with Delta Lake, Parquet, Iceberg, or Hudi formats
  • Experience with lakehouse/medallion architectures in Databricks
  • Experience with experimentation tooling (e.g., Optimizely)
