Overview

Our client is a clean tech start-up who are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead the creation of a secure, scalable, and future-proof data platform. This is a strategic, part-time role (2 days per week) that combines hands-on technical delivery with leadership responsibilities. You\'ll build the foundations of the company\'s data systems while also recruiting and mentoring a junior data engineer to take on day-to-day operations under your guidance. You\'ll be at the heart of how data is captured, processed, and utilised, working closely with the R&D team to enable meaningful analysis and insights. By embedding security, governance, and best practices from the outset, you\'ll ensure the data platform grows seamlessly alongside the business.

What you\'ll do

• Design, implement, and manage a scalable and secure data platform from scratch.
• Select and configure the right tools, services, and infrastructure for data storage, integration, and processing.
• Build and maintain pipelines to ingest, clean, and transform data from multiple sources.
• Collaborate with R&D teams to provide structured datasets that support research and analysis.
• Develop the foundations for analytics, dashboards, and reporting to generate actionable insights.
• Continuously improve data systems and workflows to support future growth.

About you

We\'re looking for someone with:

• AWS experience
• Experience of IoT architectures and Edge device environments
• Full stack development
• Proven experience building data platforms from the ground up
• Hands-on expertise with modern data engineering tools, cloud platforms, and database technologies
• Strong knowledge of pipeline design, ETL processes, and data warehousing
• A track record of embedding data quality, governance, and security best practices
• Experience mentoring, training, and developing junior engineers
