Job Description:
The Data Center Build Engineering Team designs and builds physical data center infrastructure to support Oracle Cloud Infrastructure globally. We need expertise in layer 1 networking, data center facilities (power, cooling), structured cabling solutions, and vendor management, with experience in building or supporting physical data center low voltage infrastructure. The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure team seeks a Regional Data Center Build Engineer to join us, someone passionate about innovation and cloud solutions. You will collaborate with data center development teams and vendors to build, maintain, and improve cloud infrastructure.
Location options include London, Reading, or near the M4 Corridor.
Duties:
- Coordinate implementation and support for new and existing Oracle data centers
- Manage onsite vendors to build out data center infrastructure
- Create and maintain documentation for cabling and build standards
- Review Bill Of Materials to define project scope
- Develop project scope documents for vendor quotes
- Participate in vendor bidding and selection
- Design and deploy structured cabling solutions for data centers
- Deliver sustainable, repeatable solutions and processes
- Work with Program Management to meet project goals and ensure customer satisfaction
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues in cabling infrastructure
- Assist in developing global data center cabling standards
Desired Skills:
- Experience designing and deploying data center cabling systems
- Knowledge of TIA Data Center Cabling Standards
- Familiarity with cabling best practices
- Understanding of network cabling, fiber optics, and transceivers
- Experience installing and troubleshooting fiber optic cabling
- Knowledge of infrastructure within the data center white space
- Strong vendor management skills
- Experience with test equipment like VFL, power meters, OTDR
- Understanding of Cat 5e, Cat 6, and OM1-OS2 fiber systems
- Knowledge of data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure
- Experience developing RFI/RFQ/RFP documents
