Summary: Freedom Professional Services are currently recruiting a Senior Design Engineer (Earthing) to join our team. You will be home based, however you will be expected to attend nearby Freedom or NG Bailey offices as per the company’s hybrid working policy.

Role

The Senior Design Engineer (Earthing) will be responsible for delivering the design of EHV and HV electrical substation detailed Earthing design projects both in the UK and internationally, meeting safety, quality, and environmental requirements. The role will require travel to other Freedom / NG Bailey offices and client site locations across the UK with overnight stays where necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead with delivering technically demanding projects.
  • Lead all types of earthing projects from inception to completion unaided, ensuring cost effectiveness and on-time delivery per proposal deadlines.
  • Develop good commercial awareness and build strong client relationships; communicate professionally in writing and verbally.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Design, Assistant and Graduate Engineers.
  • Demonstrate detailed knowledge of high voltage earthing design, including CDEGS software (MALZ, MALT, RESAP).
  • Carry out studies within CDEGS modules (HI-FREQ, FCDIST, TRALIN, etc.).
  • Undertake complex studies such as impressed voltage assessments and lightning protection risk assessments; awareness of lightning protection design is desirable.
  • Attend and chair design team meetings with the team/client (Teams or in person).
  • Provide engineering solutions to site-based problems via TQ/RFI processes.
  • Review/authorize earthing reports and drawings to a high standard; provide constructive technical feedback to all engineering levels.
  • Conduct, supervise and demonstrate site visits for earthing assessments, design commissioning, and investigations after failures.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with good industrial experience at Earthing Design Engineer level
  • Master of Engineering – Desirable
  • Knowledge of CAD
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD
  • CSCS Card holder – Desirable
  • Full UK Driving license
