Summary:

Freedom Professional Services is seeking a Senior Design Engineer (Protection & Control) to join our growing team. You will work on complex engineering projects supporting the country’s Net Zero targets, covering the entire energy system from transmission, distribution, and storage to end-user industries.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a history of teamwork, professional achievement, and high-quality project experience, leveraging their network for insights and new opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Utilize expertise in transmission and distribution protection and control design, including setting calculations, to advance engineering efforts.
2. Assess engineering problems critically and evaluate technical solutions to ensure excellence.
3. Communicate effectively, understanding relevant legislation like CDM and ESQCR, to manage network projects.
4. Design substation Protection & Control/SCADA/Automation systems from 11kV to 400kV using AutoCAD, including creating diagrams and performing cable calculations.
5. Produce specifications and P&C logic drawings for substations.
6. Generate relay setting files and PSL logic files.
7. Work on both Greenfield and Brownfield substations, adapting to site conditions.
8. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
9. Ensure timely, budget-conscious delivery meeting client expectations.
10. Support operational teams and resolve site issues during commissioning.
11. Review and mentor junior engineers, providing constructive feedback.
12. Adhere to SHEQ standards and company procedures.
13. Lead a team of senior and design engineers.

Candidate Profile:

Applicants should have diverse skills, including technical, ethical, social, and managerial competencies. Strong project management and commercial knowledge, especially regarding NEC contracts, are essential. Chartership is encouraged or expected.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (2:1 or above); a master’s degree is advantageous.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred.
• 8-10 years of experience in electrical protection and control system design, including substation automation and SCADA.
• Optional certifications like NEBOSH or specialized training are beneficial.
