Senior DevOps Engineer - HM Land Registry - SEO at Manchester Digital. Location: Plymouth, South West England, PL6 5WS.
Job summary: It is an exciting time for HM Land Registry (HMLR) as we continue on a major transformation programme. HMLR's ambition is to become the world’s leading land registry for speed, simplicity and an open approach to data. Three Senior DevOps Engineers are being recruited to help achieve this.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical engineering capability for the Web Operations team, supporting production systems and collaborating with Agile development teams to deliver new services in a highly available and supportable configuration using DevOps processes and tooling.
- Provide technical leadership within the team, set standards, champion them, and engage with other DevOps Engineers; coach and support DevOps Engineers and Junior DevOps Engineers.
- Work with IT software development teams to support delivery of the platform and infrastructure for new microservice applications as part of the digital transformation.
- Configure, administer and support the Web Operations infrastructure using a DevOps methodology across multiple cloud infrastructures; ensure security, performance and supportability while following an agile approach to incremental delivery.
- Lead forward technical consolidation and/or improvement activities, providing guidance to technicians within the IT Operations Practice and cross-directorate collaboration to deliver solutions aligned with technology and business strategies.
- Be prepared for travel and occasional planned out-of-hours work to deal with IT changes and maintenance; participation in an on-call rota may be required.
- Reasonable expectation to spend at least 60% of working time in the office.
Qualifications
- Qualification in Information Technology or related area (Degree level or equivalent) and/or relevant IT experience.
- Experience providing technical leadership and support within a DevOps team.
- Experience with operating systems, containers and containerised workloads (e.g., OpenShift and Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with at least one programming/scripting language (Ruby, Java, Python, JavaScript, Go, Bash, PowerShell) and/or Terraform.
- Experience with DevOps practices: Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, version control (Git and GitLab CI), and configuration-as-code across cloud and on-prem environments using Terraform.
- Experience working in an agile environment building, deploying, supporting, and operating cloud applications (especially AWS).
