Our Building Design Practice is looking for an experienced, motivated Senior Electrical Building Services Design Engineer to join the London office to work with designers across the UK and internationally through our Global Technology Centre. This role involves delivering engineering design solutions to clients across multiple sectors, with relevant experience in Commercial, Defence, and Transportation advantageous. The role requires client-facing responsibilities as well as day-to-day design and management of projects. Energy and carbon reduction are essential as we decarbonise the built environment and deliver sustainable solutions for our clients. We focus on developing staff through personalised development plans and opportunities to grow technical, digital, and project management skills. We aim to advance our digital practice and to inspire and manage large, diverse delivery teams locally and remotely.ResponsibilitiesDesign and specification of all Electrical Building Services systems – power, earthing, lighting, life safety, telecoms, security, access control, lifts, lightning protection, etc.Produce detailed calculations and specifications using industry tools (Excel, Amtech, Dialux/Relux, in-house tools) and prepare technical specifications using NBS; manage others where appropriate.Collaborate with AtkinsRéalis international Global Technology Centre (GTC) to add value to building services projects where appropriate.Partner with the BIM team to prepare models and drawings, with a working understanding of Autodesk Revit.Represent AtkinsRéalis at meetings with clients and contractors.Conduct site surveys, inspections and monitor site works; ensure alignment with project briefs and adherence to quality, environmental and governance processes.Maintain complete records and archives to company standards; contribute to report and technical note writing.Manage own workload, update forward plans regularly and operate within time allocations.Manage elements of project delivery with an understanding of budget costings.Review progress and report anomalies or changes in scope to the project lead; assist with the technical development of junior staff.What you can bringDegree qualified (or equivalent) in Building Services Engineering / Electrical Engineering or related subjects; Chartered Engineer with CIBSE or IET.Strong computer literacy with software tools such as Trimble/Prodesign, Dialux/Relux, NBS, and Microsoft; familiarity with HV tools is beneficial.Knowledge of energy reduction methods and decarbonisation of buildings; understanding of energy-related contracts and funding mechanisms (e.g., SALIX); data capture and analytics related to energy and carbon.Awareness of building physics principles (passive design, fabric-first approaches).Experience designing for measurement and verification, including commissioning and post-installation evaluation of performance.Experience in design consultancy and/or contractor design environments; detailed knowledge of relevant technical standards.Ability to lead project deliverables, take initiative, and work proactively.Strong report writing and presentation skills; comfortable attending client meetings.Ability to work within time and cost budgets as agreed at project briefings.Willingness to undertake other reasonable tasks as required by management to maintain flexibility.Why work for AtkinsRéalis?We are ranked among LinkedIn’s Top 25 Companies for whom UK professionals want to work and are listed in the Times Top 50 employers for women.
