Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Buckinghamshire. Formed over 20 years ago and now based in Chesham, the practice is a Mechanical and Electrical building services design consultancy. Projects range from £5k to £20m, with involvement from advisory work through to contract administration. The company emphasises long‑term client relationships and high customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • A capacity to develop further, sketch designs and design briefs dictated by either clients or engineering managers.
  • A capacity for original thought, judgement and initiative.
  • An understanding of critical awareness and innovation.
  • Taking full responsibility for technical and financial decisions, including choice of system, organisation of works and development of projects, with the ability to comply with time restrictions.
  • Responsibility towards technical and other staff, including trainees.
  • The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will report to the Principal Design Engineer; this is an important role and forms the basis for Practice development.
  • Competence at a high level in the following areas:
  • Understanding of the basic physics and design parameters across disciplines.
  • Full and detailed understanding of the physics and design parameters of all electrical works, and the ability to implement the designs, including energy assessment.
  • Computer literate and able to assist in the preparation of drawings on CAD and translate requirements to CAD Technicians.
  • Managerial responsibility for the engineering design function, including project management, preparation of the design (including supervision) and costing.
  • Competence in the exercise of independent technical judgement and application of engineering principles, including Standards, Codes of Practice and Regulations.
  • Development and initialisation of internal standards and evaluation and assessment of projects and failures.
  • Undertake survey of a building and prepare a report on the electrical aspects of the building, including capability and compliance with Codes of Practice and Regulations and energy evaluation.

  • Project development and administration, including cost control, programmes and maintenance of quality.
  • Continue professional development in all technical areas and adapt to changes in Standards and Regulations.
  • Management of costs associated with projects both internally and externally.
