Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer – Building Services Consultancy


We are working exclusively with a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy to appoint a Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer to their South Manchester or city centre office. This is a key opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys both hands-on design and client interaction. You’ll take ownership of electrical design delivery while also representing the business in a client-facing capacity, building and maintaining strong relationships with architects, developers, and end clients.


The consultancy has established a strong reputation for technical quality, collaboration, and delivering innovative solutions across commercial, residential, and education sectors. Recent projects include a £200M mixed-use development and a series of high-spec education facilities.


For the right person, this role offers a balance of technical design responsibility and client leadership, along with a genuine route for progression into a senior leadership position.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design on a variety of building services projects from concept through to delivery
  • Act as a client-facing representative, attending meetings, developing briefs, and providing technical guidance
  • Produce, review, and coordinate high-quality design outputs, ensuring integration with other disciplines
  • Mentor junior engineers and support the wider team with technical knowledge and best practice
  • Contribute to fee proposals, bids, and business development activities where required
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards while maintaining a focus on sustainable design
  • Manage project resources and support financial performance of allocated projects


About You

  • Degree-qualified in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered or working toward CEng status with CIBSE or IET
  • 7–10 years’ experience within a UK building services consultancy
  • Strong technical design skills with a proven ability to deliver across multiple sectors
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills, able to build long-term professional relationships
  • Confident managing project delivery and coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams
