Overview

Senior Electrical Engineer - Data Centres (Building Services) based in London. WSP has an opportunity for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer focusing on the Data Centre sector with the Mission Critical Facilities team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop conceptual designs for electrical distribution systems from EHV, HV, MV to Low Voltage, including high voltage equipment, generation equipment, UPS plant, low voltage switchgear and power control and monitoring systems.
  • Provide advice to clients regarding electrical systems/requirements to meet their business needs.
  • Lead the design of data centre electrical systems and equipment.
  • Produce design development notes and written reports of system options.
  • Produce technical specifications for electrical systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines including Architect and Structural engineers.
  • Produce calculations and tender documentation.
  • Monitor installation of designed equipment/systems to ensure compliance with employers’ requirements, design specifications and safety codes.
  • Be comfortable in a client-facing role discussing technical subjects and agreeing client requirements.
  • Work independently and as part of the WSP global project team.

Your Team

  • Work closely with colleagues on exciting and challenging projects within a Building Services team of over 100 mechanical, electrical, and public health engineers in London.
  • Work across WSP’s Building Services network and maintain high professional standards, ethics and integrity.
  • Be based in our London office with convenient commuting options and local amenities.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

  • Chartered status with CIBSE or IET (or working towards Chartered status) or equivalent experience.
  • Technical knowledge of relevant UK & EU regulations and design guides.
  • IT literate with knowledge of Trimble (formerly AmTech) and related software.
  • Understanding of ETAP for HV modelling (fault current, current flow and harmonics).
  • Understanding of Neher-McGrath method for calculating underground cable temperatures and ampacity.
  • Understanding of Tier classifications as defined by The Uptime Institute, TIA-942 and EN 50600.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to lead, direct and mentor others.
  • Understanding of Revit MEP or other 3D design software for allocation/direction of work; working knowledge of AutoCAD.
