Senior Engineer – Software – SMCS

Location: New Malden - Onsite only
Salary: Up to £60,000 (dependent on skills and experience)

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Applying experience to take a lead role in the design, implementation and testing of SMCS system solutions.
  • Guiding and mentoring other Software Engineers throughout the lifecycle.
  • Engaging with Submarine Command System customers and end users, as required, to enable development of the SMCS Programme(s) and the evolution of the SMCS product.

Essential

Your skills and experiences:

  • Experience developing software in large, distributed systems.
  • Skilled in using high level programming languages.

Desirable

  • Experience working on real-time systems.
  • Experience taking lead decisions in a software development role.
  • A strong understanding of software lifecycle models (e.g. waterfall, Agile, Spiral).
  • Proven experience using a high-level design methodology (e.g. UML).

Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or related STEM subjects and be or become Incorporated or Chartered Engineers. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The SMCS Software Team

If you are interested in the defence of the United Kingdom, this role offers the opportunity to lead and implement cutting-edge capabilities for the Royal Navy Submarine fleet. As a Team Lead, you’ll drive multiple software releases that shape development and submarine technology.
