Overview

Senior Engineer – TfL Vehicles Engineering (Buses) at Transport for London. Based at the Palestra building in Southwark with responsibilities to assure continuous bus fleet safety and to identify and implement reliability improvements for TfL’s Bus Directorate. Location: Stratford / Blackfriars / various TfL locations.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist technical services to TfL’s Bus Directorate with a focus on Bus Fleet Performance.
• Assure continuous Bus fleet safety and identify reliability improvements for the benefit of operators and customers.
• Act as a technical expert in Automotive Engineering with strong experience in vehicle testing and related areas.
• Review and assess work of others in the delivery of initial designs or modifications at system or vehicle level.
• Develop and mentor other staff members; provide professional engineering support to enhancement projects or maintenance processes.
• Apply risk-based engineering approaches across the asset lifecycle from initial specification to decommissioning, disposal or re-purposing.
• Represent the Company’s interests with external parties (e.g., railways, standards bodies, regulators).

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering or equivalent.
• Ability to work towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status if not already held.
• Significant knowledge of Vehicle Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
• Significant knowledge of Vehicle Test Protocols and Vehicle Type Approval.
• Knowledge of relevant vehicle standards (UN-ECE, ISO, etc.).
• Experience in assessing safety risks and applying mitigations.
• Experience in developing and mentoring other staff members.
• Experience in providing professional engineering support to enhancement projects or maintenance processes.
• Experience in reviewing and assessing the work of others in delivering initial designs or modifications.
• Commercial awareness of developments in Automotive products, processes and assurance best practice.
• Proven experience implementing a risk-based engineering approach across the asset lifecycle.
• Experience in job management and prioritisation; ability to guide delivery teams and internal customers; mentoring less experienced engineers.
