OverviewSenior Engineer Verification and Validation - Delivery at Rolls-Royce SMR. This role supports Rolls-Royce SMR’s four capability areas (Research & Technology, Verification and Validation, Test and Commissioning) within the Development Engineering Function. The Senior Engineer will lead the process of verifying that the power station design meets all requirements, contributing to a delivery-certain solution using modern engineering tools and techniques (analysis, rig test, etc.) before construction begins.Reporting to the Team Leader - Verification & Validation, the Senior Engineer will typically be responsible for one of the more complex, safety-critical or business-critical areas, developing the verification strategy and coordinating with design leads and technical specialists across the power station engineering team.ResponsibilitiesLead the process of determining design compliance for assigned areas, based on Verification and Validation evidence generated, working with design leads and technical specialists.Develop verification strategies that set out activities and required evidence; coordinate with cross-functional teams.Coach other Verification Engineers to develop the team’s capability and provide technical reviews of outputs.Collaborate with the wider Rolls-Royce SMR team to ensure a coherent and efficient technical solution; manage technical interfaces between departments.Key Results & AchievementsDevelopment of verification and validation strategies within the area of responsibilityActing as an intelligent customer in the Verification and Validation of the Plant and wider Rolls-Royce SMR businessSupport the Verification and Validation of the safety caseProduction of reports for regulatory bodies and discussions with regulators as appropriateDefine objectives/requirements for verification and validation activities within the strategy, and agree them with responsible partiesReviewing, auditing and collecting evidence of verification activities internally and in the supply chainCollate evidence to assess compliance with requirementsManage interfaces to ensure coherent and efficient technical solutionsKey Selection CriteriaVerification and Validation: Experience in verification and validation of new products, ideally in a safety-critical and highly-regulated industry; includes strategy/plan development, verification activities and exit criteria, and evidence review/audit.Delivery: Experience in leading challenging and complex engineering projects in a regulated industry, with project and risk management.Communication and Influence: Ability to communicate complex topics clearly and concisely, including formal technical report writing and presentations at gated reviews.Systems Engineering: Analytical, methodical approach to work.Technical coaching & reviewing: Drive up the quality of the wider team’s outputs through coaching and reviewing.Experience desirable:Design and/or development of a thermal power station or related disciplines (BoP, turbine island, cooling water island, reactor island) in nuclear or related fieldsNuclear reactors, nuclear material handling, waste treatment systems, radioactive waste handling/storage/processing, water treatment systems, HVAC, mechanical/process/chemical engineering, materials, thermofluidsPower generation systems engineeringPressurised Water Reactor plant operations, philosophy and proceduresE3S regulations and ALARP/BAT conceptsTraining & Qualification requirementsDegree-level or equivalent in civil, structural, mechanical engineering or related disciplineProfessional recognition or progress toward it (e.g., IC, IStructE, IMechE)Pay and BenefitsSalary £48,000 - £62,500Performance-related bonus up to 12.5%Attractive pension scheme with 12% employer and 6% employee contributionsFlexible benefits allowance of £2,20028 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) with option to buy extra daysBUPA personal health cover£250 one-off cash allowance on joining for home-office setupCompanyRolls-Royce SMR is a company that blends a world-class brand with startup energy to contribute to a lower-carbon future.
