We are recruiting for the role of Senior Engineer Verification and Validation - Capability. The Development Engineering organisation is responsible for demonstrating that the SMR power station design fulfils its intended objectives and requirements. It also provides data and evidence to support the station's development and delivery through verification and validation activities, testing, demonstrations, and research and technology programmes. This responsibility extends beyond nuclear engineering to a wide spectrum of engineering and operational disciplines essential for delivering a major infrastructure project. Reporting to the Capability Manager, Function-based Capability Engineers are a crucial part of ensuring Project delivery objectives can be met.
Role purpose
Senior V&V Capability Engineer's are responsible for leading the development and improvement of people, process and tools to support the verification and validation delivery.
What we're looking for
- Creation and implementation of efficient, integrated processes, methods, tools, standards and guidance that enable RR SMR objectives to be achieved.
- Supporting strategic resource planning (both internal & external) to meet business needs and priorities.
- Working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and/or other Capability Engineers to ensure technical excellence across development, supporting project delivery teams to ensure cost/quality/schedule requirements are met.
- Working with wider business stakeholders to ensure V&V processes, methods and tools are efficiently integrated with the wider business and its needs.
- Ensuring technical quality, competency & safety requirements are met in the Development supply chain, resulting in zero harm and right first-time delivery.
Key selection criteria
- Verification and Validation Experience: Experience in verification and validation of new products, ideally in a safety-critical and highly-regulated industry. Nuclear industry experience is desirable but not essential; experience with other power sectors, process industries, oil & gas, etc., will be considered. Activities may include strategy/plan development, verification activities and exit criteria, analysis, testing, or reviewing/auditing evidence to assess compliance with requirements.
- Development of Capability: Experience in developing and continuously improving methods, tools, processes and personnel capability. Creation, ownership & delivery of a departmental functional strategy (e.g. Approach to V&V). Proactive approach to challenging the status quo and continuous improvement.
- Communication and Influence: Strong interpersonal & communication skills, able to bring people together and solve problems as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Able to manage uncertainty and change, and influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Systems Engineering: Systems-thinking mindset with practical experience using Systems Engineering toolsets & techniques. Demonstrates a clear, analytical and methodical approach, able to manage change and uncertainty.
- Technical Coaching & Reviewing: Responsible for the quality of their own work and for driving up the quality of the wider team's outputs through coaching and reviewing. Skilled in conducting technical reviews of others' work with attention to detail and constructive feedback.
- Qualifications: Training and degree-level qualification in a relevant technical field. Degree qualified in Engineering or a physical science, or equivalent experience. Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership. Applicants without a degree but with suitable knowledge and experience may be considered.

Pay and Benefits
- Salary: £48,000 - £62,500 (DOE) plus:
- Bonus - Performance related bonus up to 12.5%
- Benefits Allowance - £2,200 per annum
- Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions
- Holidays - 28 days + public holidays, ability to buy/sell up to 4 days

- Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
