The role:\n\n - The candidate will need to have a strong design background and be able to work within a team environment, supporting the design delivery of existing projects and the growth of the existing client base. Previous experience and knowledge of the local Civil Engineering market is desirable.\n\nJob Responsibilities:\n\n- Design delivery of the geotechnical elements of existing and future projects\n- Co-ordinate with other engineers both in the regional offices and between groups\n- Prepare budgets, proposals and resource requirements for projects\n- Prepare calculations, drawings and other documents and ensuring these are controlled during the execution of projects\n- Support less experienced staff, sharing knowledge and acting as a coach or mentor\n- Specify and/or manage site examination and investigation work\n- Identify and manage risks for the work to agreed acceptable levels\n- Develop the relationship between the company and new and existing clients in order to identify potential work\n- Contribute to the management of the company by participating in Action Groups\n- Comply with the Company Health & Safety procedures, Quality -Assurance/Environmental Management system procedures and documentation, CDM Regulations and general legislation\n- Provide support to the Quality Manager by participating in training, audits and providing feedback\n\nSkills & Experience Required:\n\n- MEng/BEng in Civil Engineering, with an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering and/or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering\n- Chartered Engineer\n\n- Minimum of 10 years’ experience post-graduation in Geotechnical Engineering and Geotechnical Design to current UK standards, particularly Eurocodes, with detailed understanding of the following Geotechnical processes:\n\nEarthworks Remediation\nEarthworks Design\nSoil nailed slopes\nReinforced soil slopes and walls\nPiled foundations\nShallow foundations\nEmbedding retaining walls\nGravity retaining walls\nDeep basements\nGround improvement/treatment\nEnvironmental Engineering\n\n- Use of computer software for the analysis of geotechnical problems, preferably to include the use of Finite Element or other numerical methods\n- Geotechnical report writing both Ground Investigation and Geotechnical Design Reports to BS EN1997 and the production of design specifications\n- Preparation of design documentation, e.g. Forms F001 and F003 on Network Rail projects\n- Budget control and programming\n- Supervision of a Geotechnical team\n- Excellent communication both oral and written\n- Ability to work on own and within a team to meet project, client, company and personal objectives\n- Ability to provide technical direction to a team of geotechnical professionals\n- Ability to present the outcomes of Geotechnical designs to other professionals both internally and to exterior clients\n- A challenging attitude to the solution of engineering problems in order to achieve cost effective designs and develop innovative solutions\n- Awareness of the importance of costs and the need to complete projects on time and to budget
