Senior HV Cable Engineer / £600pd (outside IR35) / 6 months / Hybrid (Birmingham 2 days per week)

Join a global leader in Transmission & Distribution. We’re looking for an experienced Senior EHV Cable Design Engineer to play a key role in delivering UK transmission projects. You’ll act as a senior design authority on EHV cable systems (11kV–400kV, with focus on 132kV+), leading design packages, studies, and technical reports, ensuring compliance with UK and international standards. You’ll mentor junior engineers, support project bids, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to drive innovation, safety, and client success.

Responsibilities

• Act as a senior design authority on EHV cable systems (11kV–400kV, focus on 132kV+).
• Lead design packages, studies, and technical reports for UK transmission projects.
• Mentor junior engineers and support project bids.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to drive innovation, safety, and client success.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related).
• 5+ years’ EHV cable design experience (min. 3 years on UK transmission projects).
• Professional membership (IET, CIGRE, IEC, IEEE).
• Health & Safety qualification (IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent).

Desirable

• Software experience (Crater, Cymcap, Etap).
• National Grid project experience.
• Knowledge of CDM regulations.
• Strong communication skills.
