Role description
We are actively recruiting for a Senior EICA Design Engineer to join our MEICA team, where you will leverage your skills across various water and wastewater projects, serving clients regionally and throughout the UK. Our Water Design and Engineering team collaborates on some of the UK’s most intricate and challenging projects to enhance the water infrastructure and environment.
You will report to the Principal Engineer or Associate Technical Director. You will be responsible for the design output of your engineering discipline, ensuring technical delivery meets budget, timeline, and quality objectives while exceeding client expectations. You will promote Arcadis\' comprehensive services during client interactions, contribute to divisional business goals, and foster industry networks.
Role accountabilities
- Self-starting, independent and collaborative work on production and checking of complex electrical detailed designs including calculations, specifications, reports, and drawings.
- Support and/or lead design and advisory services for new and existing water and wastewater process plants, pumping stations and ancillary assets.
- Ensure safety of yourself and others through design leadership and actions.
- Technical delivery of multi-disciplinary projects in a Design Lead capacity where assigned, using latest digital design techniques.
- Identify and develop innovative and optimised technical solutions based on client needs and drivers.
- Lead and coordinate work with multi-disciplinary teams (process, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, ICA).
- Establish and grow relationships with clients and partners on project technical, commercial and progress matters.
- Ensure projects meet technical, legislative, quality, safety and environmental standards and objectives.
- Capture key project and technical knowledge, including innovations.
- Promote MEICA team capability and achievements internally and externally.
Key Skills
- Lead the design phases (concept, outline, and detail) for Instrumentation Control Automation systems, adhering to international standards. Sound knowledge of ICA design (instrumentation, PLC and SCADA systems), motor control systems (MCC\’s), system architecture, fieldbus/communication networks, P&ID’s, ATEX installation practice, functional safety, development of control specifications (URS/FDS), schedules and system requirements within process/industrial environment.
- Development of Design Basis, specifications, P & ID’s, System/Network Architecture, Fieldbus/communication networks, Control philosophy, Functional Design Specifications, PLC/ICA Section General Arrangements, Wiring and Schematic Diagrams, I/O schedules, Loop Diagrams, Instrument schedules and datasheets.
- Review and provide constructive comment on ICA documentation including Control Philosophies, Functional Design Specifications, I/O schedules, instrument schedules, communications architecture drawings and MCC/RTU/PLC electrical schematics and General Arrangements, ensuring compliance with plant design criteria and asset standards.
- Participate in and manage inspection, testing and commissioning stages relevant to ICA equipment and installations.
- Attend factory acceptance tests for panels, PLC/HMI application software and SCADA.
- Understand electrical infrastructure design and its integration with the ICA system; ensure contractor designs meet client specifications and industry standards (WIMES, IET wiring regs) and legislation.
- Prepare and review specifications, data sheets, drawings and technical documentation.
- Provide technical direction in project delivery, ensuring alignment with industry standards and client requirements, including managing technical client relationships and supporting project pursuits.
- Knowledge of current UK design standards, working practices and national guidance.
- Awareness of best practices and standards in cybersecurity for industrial automation and control systems.
- Mentor junior team members, fostering professional growth and effective task delegation.
- Engage in global activities, leading multi-disciplinary collaborative efforts and enhancing team capabilities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or other related degree.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status and membership of a professional institution such as IET, InstMC or CIWEM, or working towards and nearing application.
- Significant experience and track record in technical delivery of process plant systems on complex water industry projects.
- Experience working on design and construct projects using digital design.
- Technical / Discipline Team leader with collaborative behaviours.
- Feasibility to detailed design stage delivery experience.
- Experience with AutoCAD, AutoDesk Plant 3D and Common Data Environments.
