We seek an experienced senior mechanical engineer who carries design development, owners engineer and EPC experience to lead a variety of power and energy transition projects. Projects will include power generation and decarbonisation technologies forming part of the UK pathway to 2050 Net Zero (e.g., BESS, Heat Networks, Distributed Heat and Power). The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead mechanical design project teams through the design and construction process, adapting plans to budget, design factors or client needs. Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements set by project managers. Prepare mechanical equipment: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations. Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings; interface data with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers and designers. Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget, staffing planning and construction planning. Manage change orders effectively. Apply expert knowledge of commonly used mechanical concepts, practices, codes and procedures within mechanical engineering services. Apply knowledge to complex projects to develop non-standard design solutions. Quality review production drawings and project data to verify corrections across CAD software. Quality review construction administration, coordinate with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues and perform field testing as required. Lead field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients. Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications. Build and maintain relationships with clients, customers and contractors; drive customer satisfaction and identify opportunities. Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits. Lead development of cost proposals and qualification statements to meet financial targets. Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates; report project performance. Provide leadership and guidance to the mechanical engineering practice; mentor less experienced engineers. Ensure QA/QC process adherence and effective communication with other engineering disciplines. Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies. All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 7 years mechanical engineering experience. Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred. Expert knowledge of mechanical equipment design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE). Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members; ability to lead execution and resolve issues in a teamwork environment. Demonstrated critical thinking, methodical and analytical problem-solving abilities. Strong attention to detail, facilitation, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications. Ability to travel.
