Oxford Instruments Nanoscience is a premium provider of high-value, high-complex products enabling cutting-edge research, cryogenic instrumentation, and quantum computing. This Senior Mechanical Engineer role is newly established to take the NPI team to the next level, acting as a go-to authority for signoffs and spearheading new system- and platform-level development in line with the product roadmap. You’ll manage full product lifecycles for systems typically involving pressured vessels and vacuum devices, working with cryogenics and system engineers from concept through design, manufacture, testing, installation, and service.

From a product design concept to completion, you’ll thrive on solving difficult problems and finding efficiencies. This is a role for someone who views engineering as a mindset and a journey, continually challenging existing principles and contributing to modular design interfaces and standard definitions as we evolve the design process.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering product designs from concept to completion, including designing entire systems rather than isolated components.
  • Own and drive DFMEA, DFM, DFA, and DFS activities to ensure robust designs.
  • Adopt VoC (voice of customer) and health & safety-focused design approaches.
  • Manage full product lifecycles for projects involving pressed vessels and vacuum devices; collaborate with cryogenics and system engineers.
  • Lead concept design, modelling, design for manufacture, testing, production, installation, and service for new systems.
  • Challenge existing mechanical principles and implement configuration and standard interface definitions for modular design evolution.
  • Act as a senior authority for design sign-offs and as a leader for new system- and platform-level development aligned with the product roadmap.

Qualifications

  • Three or more years’ experience leading mechanical engineering product designs from concept to completion.
  • Experience designing an entire system/product – not just individual components.
  • DFMEA, DFM, DFA, DFS experience.
  • VoC and health & safety–focused design approach.
