Senior Mechanical Engineer role at Mace.

The opportunity

Project: New Prisons Programme

Mace has an in-house team of mechanical and electrical engineers who design and implement new build and refurbishment projects. They undertake condition surveys, concept planning, design development and production of drawn information for tendering through to construction, including inspections and ratifications of final work. They also undertake existing property inspection, maintenance and manage upgrade and repair contracts to existing properties. Suitably experienced and qualified mechanical engineers with a specialist background in the sectors below would be advantageous. Due to the nature of the work, security clearances will be required, and a pre-requisite of this process is that the candidate has been resident in the UK for 3 years (to be confirmed).

To undertake the full range of activities scheduled within the current RIBA Plan of Work: Multi-Disciplinary Services work stages 1-6, and its successor, and BSRIA BG6 professional services, together with any gateway review process. Production of project plans, designs, consultee responses, work implemented on site, contributions to group working practices and development.

Locations and travel: The positions will be based in Winchester. Occasional travel to project locations, mainly in the Southern and Eastern areas of the UK. Regular visits to construction sites.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Assisting in the design and delivery of building and engineering projects or programmes to achieve high quality within given timescales, budgets and statutory requirements.
  • Providing mechanical engineering design services.
  • Designing mechanical elements for new build or repair/refurbishment projects and specifying systems and performance criteria.
  • Expertise in heating, ventilation and cooling systems, hot and cold-water services, natural gas, and IESVE 2019 - Energy Modelling.
  • Modeling, simulations, options appraisals and feasibility studies with whole life cost considerations.
  • Understanding project deliverables and RIBA stages, health and safety, cost control, value engineering and site inspections.
  • Providing report preparation, troubleshooting and guidance on new and redevelopment projects.
  • Working with new and emerging technology and integrating with new design concepts; developing supply chains where necessary.

About You

You must be a professionally qualified mechanical design engineer with experience commensurate with the role and the project/programme of works. You should be digitally savvy, able to build lasting client relationships and capable of taking on the role of CDM-C. A construction or project management background is advantageous, and you should be eager to grow your career within Mace.

Note: Mainly office-based, dependent on government COVID-19 rules. Ability to work from home safely and in compliance with DSE regulations is advantageous.
