The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of innovation, helping to develop, integrate and test mission-critical systems that support national defence. This is a dynamic opportunity to work on cutting-edge engineering projects within a collaborative and forward-thinking team.

You’ll provide technical oversight and assurance across multiple engineering programmes, contributing to the continued operation and enhancement of complex naval assets. Your work will make a tangible impact on national security and your own professional growth.

  • Checking mechanical engineering deliverables including technical documentation, 3D CAD models, and drawings.
  • Setting out concepts, selecting materials, and performing scoping calculations.
  • Working across the full engineering lifecycle from design to delivery.
  • Defining and reviewing test instructions and interpreting results.
  • Managing non-conformance and change request processes.


    • This is a full-time position (37 hours per week) based at our Ashton Vale site in Bristol, offering hybrid working arrangements—typically two days onsite and three days working from home. Please note, there may be occasions where a longer onsite presence is required to meet project needs. 


    Essential Experience of the Senior Mechanical Engineer

  • Strong mechanical engineering capabilities including design for manufacture and validation through hand calculations.
  • Proven ability to lead or guide teams across multiple projects and disciplines.
  • Skilled in applying systems engineering design processes.
  • Experienced in using CAD systems for design, modelling, simulation, and draughting.

    • Qualifications for the Senior Mechanical Engineer 

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or
  • Higher National Diploma/Certificate in Mechanical Engineering with demonstrable senior-level experience.


    • Security Clearance
    The successful candidate must be a SOLE UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role. However, you must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance once in post.
