Senior Mechanical Design Engineer — Manchester (Hybrid); Open for Perm & Contract. Contract - up to £440 per day OUTSIDE IR35; Perm - up to £65K per annum.

A UK-based engineering design consultancy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support major water sector projects. The company has established itself as a trusted partner within regulated industries, delivering innovative and sustainable engineering solutions while maintaining a strong focus on safety, wellbeing, and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Produce design calculations and drawings.
  • Lead junior designers and oversee subcontract M&E teams.
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Prepare design reports and specifications, ensuring compliance with professional standards.
  • Present at design reviews and client meetings.

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of mechanical design experience in the water industry.
  • Strong background in hydraulic design.
  • Knowledge of electrical design and control systems.
  • Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional registration, working towards chartership.

Preferred Experience

  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Experience with wastewater and clean water projects.
  • Awareness of construction methods and materials.
