Overview

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Energy Transition Team. You will lead the development of mechanical designs on a wide range of transmission projects, including natural gas at below and above 7 bar, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, LNG terminals, and biogas. There is also potential to work on projects within the wider energy portfolio, including conventional power plants, energy-from-waste plants, industrial facilities and carbon capture schemes. The UK Energy Transition team provides services from initial inception through development and construction to operation and decommissioning, supporting clients over the entire lifecycle of a project. The role involves working within a large engineering group and collaborating with private developers, power utilities, government bodies, banks, lending agencies, contractors and OEMs to safely deliver projects while meeting client expectations.

Location is flexible across our UK office network.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the project team to develop cost-effective, efficient and innovative solutions to complex problems and create practical designs based on these solutions.
  • Contribute to projects at various maturity stages, including feasibility studies, Concept Designs, FEED Studies, Value Engineering and Detailed Design, with opportunities for site work during development, construction and commissioning.
  • Prepare pipeline deliverables and Above Ground Installations such as wall thickness calculations and piping specifications.
  • Undertake pipeline routing and population studies.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines in the development of designs.
  • Support development of layouts and 3D models.
  • Develop proposals and bids for the piping and layout discipline and contribute to multi-disciplinary proposals.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

  • A Degree in a relevant Engineering subject.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards IEng/CEng and a member of a relevant Engineering Institute.
  • Work experience within the gas industry.
  • Ability and desire to assume a lead role in the development of pipeline and AGI engineering deliverables.
  • Knowledge of national and international codes and standards for the design and manufacturing of plant equipment and piping.
  • Experience of carrying out pipeline and AGI design.
  • Experience of working in a multi-discipline team on plant 3D models.
  • Understanding of the design process and ability to work with brief/scope documents, design concepts and calculations.
  • Experience of operational and integrity issue troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk products, specifically AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks and BIM360.
  • Proficiency in MS Office for creating technical reports, specifications, schedules and calculations.
  • Experience of working with clients and contractors with diverse objectives in achieving a technical solution.
