Senior Network Design Engineer BPS/CAS – Fujitsu

Location: Basingstoke (BSN01), United Kingdom

We are looking for a Senior Network Designer Engineer to work on delivery opportunities within the secure Defence and National Security sector. You will understand business and technical requirements and produce the relevant design collateral (including governance reviews), provide hands-on configuration and implementation support, troubleshoot technical issues, ensure effective handover to service, and support the project team in milestone deliverables.

Key Skills And Experience

  • Strong technical networking knowledge with industry-recognized certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Juniper JNCIS-ENT).
  • Experience with routing protocols, virtual routing instances, VPNs, and security zones.
  • Experience with network security products including Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS).
  • Proficiency in F5, Cisco Secure Firewall, and Gigamon technology.
  • Demonstrable design experience with global network vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper).
  • Network device configuration, troubleshooting, and defect resolution skills.
  • Understanding of the project life cycle from requirements gathering to operational acceptance.
  • Proven experience in network troubleshooting across multiple vendors and technology areas.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience of performance testing of cyber monitoring tools (sizing, capacity management and planning, performance troubleshooting).

Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WAN) to meet organizational and customer needs.
  • Troubleshoot network issues, including escalations from lower support tiers.
  • Implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware from threats and unauthorized access.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to resolve issues.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for implemented networks (diagrams, configuration details, procedures).
  • Mentor junior network engineers and other team members.
  • Automate network tasks to streamline management and improve efficiency.
  • Plan for service outages and respond to network-related problems with minimal disruption.
  • Support network upgrades and security configurations (patches, service packs, hot fixes).
  • Evaluate new technologies and their potential benefits for the organization and customers.

Desired Skills, Experience, Qualifications

  • Experience with networking at Layer 2 and Layer 3.
  • Good understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, VLANs).
  • Proficiency in design and implementation tools (e.g., Visio, Cisco Packet Tracer).
  • Experience with network management and monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios).
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or JNCIA.

Additional Considerations

  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM, RHEV, Xen, ProxMox) is beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of data centre networking and technologies is advantageous.
