What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Significant demonstrable experience Performance Test Engineer / Lead in an agile team with a pragmatic, strategic mindset with focus on systems scalability and sustainability
  • Extensive experience in performance testing APIs, UIs, microservices and enterprise databases (e.g.- MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle)
  • Detailed working knowledge with practical experience and skill at identifying performance bottlenecks cross application and infrastructure layers
  • Strong working knowledge and practical experience of performance testing tools (JMeter and K6) and performance monitoring tools like Grafana, Kibana, Kiali, Prometheus and AWS CloudWatch
  • Detailed working knowledge and familiarity with IaC and modern DevOps practices

You'll be part of an agile, forward-thinking team working on high-impact projects. Your job? Making sure our systems are fast, reliable and ready for anything. You'll lead performance testing across key services, work closely with developers and architects and bring your expertise to everything from test automation to CI/CD integration. It's a hands-on role where you'll shape strategy, mentor others and help us stay ahead of the curve. You'll need to be comfortable working with tools like JMeter or K6, have experience with AWS and Kubernetes and know your way around Git pipelines. If you love solving problems, spotting bottlenecks and making things better, we want to hear from you.

Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay: We offer competitive pay of up to £71,017.

Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth over £16,000 per year.

Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 26 days rising to 31 days over time. You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.
