Overview
We are seeking a Principal Engineer/Associate with experience in the Highways/Development Infrastructure Sector to be part of our growing and vibrant team working on exciting highway projects. The key role is to assist and support the Management of the Infrastructure team in the North of England, along with winning and delivering projects safely, efficiently, and effectively. The role offers hybrid working with 2-3 days office based. Reporting to the Infrastructure Director for the UK, you will play an important role within the team to support with the delivery of projects. You will work closely with private and public sector clients of all types and across all sectors locally and regionally. We are seeking an individual who has a sound technical background and shares our enthusiasm and determination to deliver successful projects. The candidate will form part of an existing team already delivering a varied programme of highway and transportation schemes for a wide range of public and private sector clients across both the local and strategic highway networks. You can expect to work on development infrastructure projects from feasibility through to detailed design including highway design and drainage design, associated technical and statutory authority approvals. You will be responsible for projects, delivery, budgets, resourcing, planning, and programming whilst also assisting in the preparation of technical outputs, coordinating with other disciplines and represent the business internally and externally. You will also be required to play a key role in the leadership and development of team, projects, clients, and business performance whilst also leading projects.
Responsibilities
Support delivery of highway and development infrastructure projects from feasibility through to detailed design, including highway design and drainage design, and associated technical and statutory authority approvals.
Manage projects in terms of delivery, budgets, resourcing, planning and programming; assist in the preparation of technical outputs and coordinate with other disciplines; represent the business internally and externally.
Play a key role in leadership and development of the team, projects, clients, and business performance; lead projects where required.
Work with a range of private and public sector clients locally and regionally on development infrastructure schemes.
Collaborate with design teams and project stakeholders to ensure high-quality outcomes delivered on time.
Qualifications
MEng/MSc or BEng in Civil Engineering; ideally Chartered (ICE or CIHT) or working toward Professional Qualification; demonstrated extensive Civil Engineering experience in a consultancy environment.
Strong technical background with experience in highway and drainage design, including S278/38 processes; good knowledge of DMRB, MCHW, MfS, TSM, Local Authority guides, and their applications.
Proficient with AutoCAD/Civil3D and other civil engineering software; IT literate and able to design and detail highway and drainage infrastructure.
Experience in project management with a solid understanding of financial and commercial aspects of projects.
Ability to propose innovative, value-driven solutions; strong communication skills to manage clients and external design teams.
Experience in line management and providing technical oversight for delivery teams; ability to mentor and supervise junior colleagues.
Ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and project stakeholders; strong written skills for technical reports and fee proposals.
Experience working with Public and Private sector clients is preferable.
Adaptable, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and committed to self-progress; flexible and willing to learn new skills.
Ability to see the bigger picture and understand the consequences of decisions.
