Overview

Senior / Principal Process Safety Engineers are sought to join Arthian to deliver a diverse range of technical safety studies. The role is based in our UK offices and offers progression from senior to principal along with the opportunity to upskill as a Professional Process Safety Engineer, Functional Safety Engineer (FSEng), or other qualified accreditation.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be a member of the Process Safety Team within the wider Safety Group and will be involved in all aspects of professional input to process safety consultancy projects. You will deliver high-quality technical project work on time and on budget, and help colleagues do the same. Additional duties may include marketing and business development support to identify new clients and opportunities to support firm growth. You will work within a supportive and driven team, contributing to client satisfaction, company performance and sales targets. Some travel is involved, for which a valid driving licence is required; occasional air travel may also be required.

Wider knowledge of environmental engineering and/or occupational health and safety principles would be beneficial but is not essential.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Honours or Masters’ Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). Candidates with a post-graduate MSc in Safety & Risk Management or Safety, Risk & Reliability Engineering will be considered.
  • Membership (associate or above) of a related professional institute (e.g., IChemE or equivalent). Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Process Safety Engineer (PEng) status would be advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence and clean driving record.
  • Desirable experience:
  • Consulting experience applying process safety principles in chemical/industrial/high-hazard environments.
  • Coordination and leadership of DSEAR/ATEX hazardous area classification and risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of COMAH legislation, preparation of COMAH safety reports, hazardous substance consent applications, major accident prevention policies, and ALARP justifications is advantageous.
  • Coordination and leadership of technical process safety studies (e.g., HAZOP, HAZID).
  • Broad understanding of UK health, safety and environmental legislation; experience in auditing and reporting for compliance is advantageous.
  • Experience in functional safety studies (e.g., LOPA, SIL) including BS EN 61511 and/or quantitative risk assessment.
  • Mentoring of less experienced colleagues.
