OverviewSenior / Principal Process Water Engineer (Buildings Team) – Bristol area (Cardiff or Birmingham options available).Arup City of Bristol, United KingdomWe are seeking a Principal Public Health Engineer with a strong background in process water to join our team and contribute to developing technical excellence and our reputation in Public Health Engineering.ResponsibilitiesLead the design and delivery of public health engineering services on complex, multidisciplinary projects across sectors, ensuring technical quality, effective coordination, and delivery within budgets and timelines.Provide specialist expertise in process water systems, particularly for mission-critical environments such as data centres and industrial facilities.Guide and mentor less experienced team members, fostering knowledge sharing and continuous improvement; collaborate with clients, architects, and interdisciplinary teams.Contribute to achieving net zero carbon goals by considering environmental impact at all project stages; manage project finances, including fee proposals and client discussions.Support business development and contribute to bid preparation; embrace digital tools and automation to enhance project delivery and explore integrated, technology-driven services.Coordinate with Building Services Engineering team and other disciplines (civil, structural, fire, acoustics, BIM, etc.) to deliver multidisciplinary design solutions.Work toward building the team’s capabilities and reputation in process water engineering within mission-critical environments.QualificationsDegree in Engineering, Building Services, or related field; Chartered Engineer status (or close to being chartered) with a recognized institution (e.g., IMechE or CIBSE).Extensive experience in public health/building services engineering with specialist knowledge of process and cooling water systems, including water treatment technologies and water quality management. Experience with medical and compressed gas systems, fire suppression, and below-ground drainage design is advantageous but not required.Proven leadership on large-scale, complex projects in science and industrial sectors; strong awareness of relevant legislation and sustainability standards (including UN SDGs).Project and team management skills, including mentoring, workload coordination, and financial oversight.Proficiency in BIM tools (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD) and a commitment to digital innovation in design and delivery.What we offerWe offer an attractive total reward package with competitive pay, opportunities for growth, and benefits supporting health and wellbeing, learning, and impact through meaningful work.
