Senior Principal Protection & Control Design Engineer

You will work on projects across renewable energy, modernising the electrical grid, and developing natural gas infrastructure, and lead and collaborate on protection and control designs up to 400 kV from concept to energisation. This role offers opportunities to work with UK clients and to contribute to innovation, standardisation, and collaboration with suppliers.
Your Role
- Develop scoping documentation and Main Connections & Protection Diagrams.
- Review Protection & Control Designs developed by third parties.
- Specify P&C related equipment and plant such as relays, CTs, and VTs.
- Produce detailed designs including AC/DC schematics.
- Conduct protection grading studies, produce relay files and settings.
- Review Commissioning Plans and attend Commissioning Panel meetings.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or a related field.
- Experience working on Distribution Networks as a Senior/Principal Protection & Control Design Engineer.
- Knowledge and experience with protection relays and relay panels, CT & VT sizing calculations, protection grading studies, and producing detailed AC/DC drawings.
- Familiarity with UK electrical practices and standards and an understanding/appreciation of CDM regulations.
- High regard for safety with demonstrable experience in risk mitigation.
- Experience working with National Grid processes.
