About ITM Power

ITM Power is at the forefront of the green hydrogen industry, designing and manufacturing PEM electrolysers that contribute to decarbonisation. With over two decades of scientific expertise, we are a leader in clean energy technology.

Our journey: founded in 2000, listed on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange. Headquartered in the UK, our manufacturing facility is a large-scale PEM facility with R&D and manufacturing, and ITM Power Germany serves as our EU hub for regional functions and aftersales services.

Innovation and impact: our PEM electrolysers are deployed in some of the world’s largest green hydrogen projects, driving cost-effectiveness and sustainability. We are focused on streamlined delivery and operational excellence as we grow.

What we are looking for

We have an opportunity for a Senior Process and Systems Engineer. The role involves solving complex problems using discipline-specific knowledge to improve ITM products. Responsibilities include conducting process studies to optimise electrolyser process design configurations, flare, relief, blowdown/depressurizing, vent system design, and utility system sizing. You will participate in safety reviews, including HAZOP/HAZID studies and process safety assessments. You will lead work on small to medium projects and should be well-versed in chemical process plant industry-standard design codes.

Responsibilities

  • Process modelling, develop heat and material balances, utility balances, and PFDs for the total plant using Hysys/Unisim.
  • Develop P&IDs and equipment specifications.
  • Perform process equipment sizing, hydraulic and heat exchanger design, and pressure relief calculations.
  • Evaluate and optimise process design alternatives for safety, efficiency and regulatory adherence.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to integrate process design with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation designs.
  • Provide information across proposal, engineering and construction phases for process and systems engineering.
  • Create and review pressure and explosive atmospheres safety cases.
  • Participate in design safety studies such as HAZOP and LOPA.
  • Create and review operations/maintenance manuals and FAT procedures.

About You

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in process or chemical engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in oil and gas, chemical and gas processing EPC industries, with most experience in a major EPC company rather than a production facility.
  • Proficiency with process engineering tools (UNISIM, HYSYS, Aspen Plus, PipeSim) for simulation and analysis.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Competent use of MS Office Suite.

Advantageous

  • Knowledge of alkaline, SOEC, SMR, fuel cells, clean fuels, energy storage systems, or chemical synthesis (e.g., ammonia, methanol).
  • Knowledge of compressed gases, pressure systems, and Pressure Equipment Directives, as well as relevant UK, European and USA legislation.
  • Knowledge of ATEX Directives and related explosive atmospheres legislation.
  • Licenced/Chartered Professional Engineer status is common for applicants.
  • Familiarity with PLC-based process control, Safety Instrumented Systems, and SIL calculations.
  • Experience chairing HAZOP and/or LOPA studies.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication, able to convey process concepts to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective leadership and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
