Senior Process Engineer

18 Days Old

Overview

Concrete4Change (C4C) is a pioneering R&D company developing breakthrough technology to permanently mineralise CO₂ in concrete. We are finalising a mini full-flowsheet pilot plant at our Nottingham facility to operate over the next six months and feed into process design documentation and models for a scalable commercial demonstrator.

Position

Senior Process Engineer (Job title flexible). Location: Nottingham, UK. Type: Permanent, Full-Time. Start Date: Immediate.

The Opportunity

Lead our scale-up journey—from lab pilot to commercial demonstration. Reporting to the CTO, you will play a key role in process modelling, pilot operation, scale-up design, equipment selection, and coordination with EPCs, subcontractors, and internal teams. This is an opportunity to apply multidisciplinary engineering skills to a transformative climate technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Design & Scale-up
  • Collaborate with the CTO to define, optimise, and execute scale-up plans
  • Develop process models and design documents, including heat and mass balances, equipment lists and sizing, utility and waste profiles
  • Prepare PFDs, process descriptions, preliminary plot plans, techno-economic evaluations
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and integration of chemical recovery steps
  • Pilot & Commercial Plant Operations
  • Support commissioning, operation, and troubleshooting of the mini-plant
  • Ensure learnings from the pilot feed into the commercial plant design
  • Manage experimental runs and ensure high-quality data generation
  • Oversee maintenance, upgrades, and modifications of pilot systems
  • Forecast engineering workload and resource needs
  • Lead or support cross-functional teams including subcontractors and EPCs
  • Ensure safety, quality, and documentation standards are met
  • Project manage engineering tasks, time, and budgets
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
  • Work with chemists, mechanical engineers, process control engineers, and plant operators
  • Provide clear communication and lead by example
  • Support operational safety through systems like permit-to-work and equipment isolation
  • Influence technical direction, team structure, and scale-up strategy

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in process design, commissioning, and scale-up, ideally involving solids handling or mineral processing
  • Strong grasp of unit operations and chemical/physical transformations
  • Proven ability to manage EPCs, subcontractors, and pilot plant construction
  • Experience delivering engineering packages from concept to deployment
  • Ability to analyse plant data and implement continuous improvement
  • Strong project management and leadership skills
  • Experience with Python, Excel, Aspen, Thermoflex, or similar tools
  • Exposure to techno-economic analysis and cost modelling
  • Knowledge of PLCs, SCADA, electrical systems, and process control
  • Fluent in more than one language
  • Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Experience in carbon capture and mineralisation processes
  • Background in concrete or cement chemistry
  • Educated to at least BEng/BSc in Process or Chemical Engineering
  • Willingness to travel and potentially relocate (future plant expected in UK or EU)
  • Bonus scheme tied to key milestones
  • Private health insurance & pension plan
  • Generous holiday entitlement
  • Free food and coffee at the office
  • Equity participation opportunities
  • Work alongside world-class partners and technology leaders
  • Full exposure to a scale-up journey from pilot to full commercialisation
  • Unrivalled long-term career progression in climate tech
