Brief Description
As Senior Project Engineer B&C (Structures) reporting to the Programme Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the development and implementation of the B&C (Structures) Central Route NW&C for ASPRO, Enhancement Development and Self-Delivery. You will lead a multi-disciplinary Project Engineer team (Track/Off Track, Structures, Drainage and Geotech), providing day-to-day assurance of designs and construction activities across allocated projects. You may also fulfil the duties of Designated Project Engineer on multi-discipline railway projects within an established team, managing design and construction activities, ensuring engineering standards, and complying with PACE, legislation, Railway Group and company standards, and Network Rail procedures.
This role is based in Baskerville House, Birmingham. You will be in the office a minimum of 3 days per week, with flexible working from other offices and site locations as necessary.
What will you be doing?
- Implement digital railway systems and procedures to deliver a cost-effective, high-quality and safe approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities. Review relevant legislation and liaise with government departments.
- Monitor the competence of all Project Engineers on projects related to Digital Railway Programme outputs and provide functional guidance.
- Apply engineering controls and procedures to all projects and ensure design and construction contracts reference relevant Railway Group and Company standards.
- Apply risk assessment techniques (quantified and qualitative) and HAZOP analysis; manage environmental aspects in line with Environmental Policy.
- Ensure projects comply with Railway Group and Company standards and Digital Railway Programme project control procedures.
- Advise project/programme management on construction activities, testing, commissioning and site supervision; confirm design/construction elements meet CDM and legislative requirements.
- Assure contractor design, construction and specialist personnel competence; conduct design/construction reviews and audits to ensure safety and quality.
- Carry out duties of Designated Project Engineer (DPE) to meet Network Rail engineering management standards and procedures.
- Undertake accident investigations as remitted to identify root causes and disseminate learning.
Qualifications and Experience
- Significant experience in engineering disciplines, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects across multi-discipline areas.
- Technical qualifications to at least HND level or equivalent.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution.
- Experience of major contracting.
- Knowledge of structuring safety cases to support projects.
- Knowledge of safety management and quality assurance.
- Understanding of arrangements required for independent assessment of works.
- Accident investigation experience.
Desirable
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt (desirable).
- Chartered status or equivalent in the discipline (desirable).
- Appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works (desirable).

Salary: starting from £55,596 rising to £62,546 per annum. Salary offered within the advertised pay range.
