Spicy Minds Ltd is building technology to help families navigate Autism, ADHD, SEND and other mental health & neurodiversity challenges, providing accessible digital support and resources. The schools, local education authority and NHS systems are overwhelmed and in crisis, and young people are not getting the help they need.

About the Role

We're seeking a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to join our engineering team. This role is critical to ensuring our Sylva platform meets people's needs and complies with relevant standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • QA Strategy & Compliance: Own the risk-based QA strategy and ensure compliance with relevant policies & standards.
  • Test Planning & Requirements: Review and clarify requirements, write test cases and validate test coverage. Develop and maintain automated test frameworks. Work with LLM evaluation tools.
  • Test Execution & Automation: Design and execute tests on deterministic software & non-deterministic LLM systems (functional behaviour, non-functional requirements, crisis detection & safeguarding risk controls). Manual ticket-by-ticket testing (finding functional bugs and anomalies that were missed by automated TTD). Manual & automated LLM safety & value testing. Manual integration tests. Automated regression & end-to-end tests. Manual native app testing.
  • Documentation & Traceability: Document all test results with sufficient detail for repeatability, traceability and auditability.

Requirements

Mandatory Requirements

  • Strong academic results

Essential Experience & Skills

  • QA engineering experience in a regulated business
  • Experience within a Test Driven Development culture
  • ISTQB Foundation

  • Ability to collaborate with Product Owner, Engineers, Designated Safeguarding Lead and Clinical Safety Officer
  • Highly organised with strong project management skills and ability to meet multiple deadlines
  • Proactive, creative problem-solver who can work independently
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced start-up environment with evolving priorities
  • Genuine interest in mental health and neurodiversity advocacy

Practical Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Available for a minimum 2 days per week in our Bristol office
  • DBS check (we will support you through this process)

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience in healthcare or safety-critical systems
  • Experience with DTAC, DCB 0129, ISO 62304, ISO 27001, ISO 13485, ISO 14971
  • Experience testing non-deterministic LLM systems
  • ISTQB Advanced Test Analyst, Test Automation Engineer (Specialist), AI Testing (Specialist), Agile Testing (Specialist)
  • Familiarity with React, CICD
