Role and project

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quality Engineer to join our Major Projects team to work at our Old Oak Common development in London – join us and be part of the largest construction project in the UK.

Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line, with high-speed rail services and multiple facilities to provide an exceptional customer experience.

What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the coordination, submission, compliance and management of all assurance activities and the resolution of assurance-related issues.

Role Responsibilities

  • Act as the main point of contact for all Quality matters within the Work Package
  • Build collaborative relationships with all stakeholders and drive a culture of openness and honesty; ensure non-conformities are identified, reported and closed in a timely manner
  • Ensure active communication between key stakeholders within the Work Package (BBVS APM, Subcontractors Quality rep, etc.)
  • Engage with subcontractors at early stages, provide training and assistants with BBVS Quality tools and processes
  • Review the Subcontractors Quality Plan to ensure alignment with contract requirements and the BBVS IMS
  • Support Delivery Teams in the review of Material Acceptance Records (MAR) and ensure information is clear with proper supporting evidence
  • Perform surveillances of the Subcontractor’s supply chain to review their assurance process
  • Participate in the Readiness Review process and attend/provide input for Package Progress Meetings
  • Seek support from the Quality Assurance Manager as required and provide regular updates on progress and ongoing Quality topics

Who we’re looking for

The Following Experience Is Essential

  • Experience of Major Civil Engineering projects
  • Knowledge and experience of working to UK and International Standards, and industry Codes of Practice
  • Quality subject matter expertise and proven track record in Quality Management
  • A formal qualification in Quality Management or Civil Engineering (e.g., Bachelor or Master’s Degree)
  • Strong ownership, value-add mindset and a proactive, “make it happen” approach
  • Ability to build strong relationships with project team members, suppliers, client representatives and other stakeholders
  • Substantial practical experience of quality assurance and control in a relevant environment
  • Technical knowledge and experience relevant to the works area
  • Ability to gather, analyse and evaluate facts, make appropriate judgments and act without undue delay
  • Attention to detail and follow-through to completion
  • Effective oral and written communication; ability to influence others including senior management
  • Initiative, resilience and ability to work within a multi-discipline team
  • Knowledge of the sector and experience within a project-based organization
  • Professional conduct and collaborative working style
  • Curiosity and an auditing mindset
  • Self-starter who manages their own time and adds value to the function
