At Amazon, we're working to be the most customer-centric company on earth. To get there, we need exceptionally talented, bright, and driven people. If you'd like to help us build the place to find and buy anything online, this is your chance to make history.

One focus area of the Amazon Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) mission is to provide tools, resources, and environments that support safe, efficient, and healthy behaviors and encourage employees to proactively manage their health and wellbeing.

To support this focus area, Amazon is seeking an experienced WHS Senior Safety Design and Engineering Manager to play a critical role to ensure high standards of safety are built into systems and processes across new and legacy Fulfilment Centres, Sort Centres and Delivery Stations across Europe.

The successful candidate will serve as the lead safety expert for projects, providing comprehensive technical guidance, guiding procurement and facilitating design processes to ensure compliance, lead proactive safety initiatives and develop and implement comprehensive safety programs.

The role will be filled by an experienced Senior Safety Design and Engineering Manager with detailed technical knowledge of EU safety regulations and best practice engineering and procedural controls to reduce risk to operators and maintainers. Emphasis will be on technical knowledge and the ability to engage with cross functional teams, transforming this knowledge into sound, compliant processes.

They must demonstrate the ability to comprehend and apply technical documents, requirements and solutions, using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements. This team member should be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. They will be required to possess strong safety and relevant environmental and ergonomic knowledge and to demonstrate this expertise when working with increasing responsibilities in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, engineering/facilities or service operations along with Engineering, Design, Construction, Startup and Operations teams.

Location: Mix of site and office work. The role will require frequent travel up to approx. 60% - 70% of the time. For this reason, a driving license with experience in UK and Continental Europe is highly desirable.

It is desirable that they will also have technical knowledge of EU machinery safety standards and regulations, robotics and automated conveyors to meet all European country requirements and lead procurement and implementation of systems across the network.

A day in the life: Each day, we work backwards starting with our customer needs and partner with stakeholders to identify and mitigate high-risk safety hazards, ensuring maintenance operations remain safe. We analyse incidents, review KPIs, and conduct root cause investigations to drive continuous improvement. Through training, policy development, and engagement initiatives, we influence safe behaviours and strengthen Amazon's safety culture. Our work ensures that risk reduction is proactive, comprehensive, and always evolving.

About the team: RME WHS is part of the High-Risk Operations (HRO) family, working under the mantra: "Safe to Operate. Operate Safely." We enable and equip our partners to manage the highest safety risks to Amazon Associates, particularly those arising from operating and maintaining machinery and equipment, as well as managing contractors supporting our operations. The RME WHS Team focuses on risks in RME activities but takes an end-to-end approach, ensuring all risk reduction opportunities are pursued in line with the risk control hierarchy. We influence safe behaviours by analysing human factors and fostering a positive safety culture through engagement initiatives. Where applicable, we use these insights to shape safety interventions and proactively mitigate risks. We support RME teams by maintaining a robust suite of policies, standards, procedures, and specifications, enacted through competent, trained individuals and continuously improved through targeted bar-raising programs.
