Senior Software Development Engineer - Developer Experience (Principal Associate)
New Today
About this role
As a Senior Engineer you will be contributing to the development of internally facing applications and solutions that support our software and infrastructure delivery teams within Capital One. You will be a core part of improving the productivity and engagement of engineers across Capital One UK by driving the adoption of enterprise capabilities and simplifying the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
You will be working within a focused delivery team whilst partnering with colleagues across our entire business to enable and enhance the ability for our teams to deliver solutions at pace.
What you'll do
- You'll work as part of a self-organised developer tooling engineering team to design and develop software features that support the delivery of software and services within the software delivery domain.
- Work with the engineering lead and stakeholders to understand the product direction and to then translate those requirements into technical solutions.
- Your focus is on a major portion of existing or new team software (e.g., significant component, set of features, mid-size application or service).
- Drive engineering best practices (e.g., Operational Excellence, Security, Quality, etc.) and set standards across your team and wider engineering teams.
- Innovate within your team, initiative area and contribute within your technical domain.
- Identify opportunities to simplify and remove friction for engineers throughout the SDLC.
- Enable the Developer Experience (DX) team to offer solutions that increase productivity and reduce friction.
- Drive efforts to build stronger partnerships between Product Engineering (PE) and DX.
What you'll get to learn
- Working with the cloud/AWS and the opportunities that it brings.
- Solving real world problems and being comfortable working in a complex regulated environment.
Where and how you'll work
This is a permanent position and is based in our Nottingham office. We've adopted a flexible hybrid working model - one that creates the opportunity to work in your own way, but also provides great spaces for in-person collaboration.
We're big on collaboration and connection, so you'll be based in our Nottingham office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
What's in it for you
- Bring us all this - and you'll be well rewarded with a role contributing to the roadmap of an organisation committed to transformation
- We offer high performers strong and diverse career progression, investing heavily in developing great people through our Capital One University training programmes (and appropriate external providers)
- Immediate access to our core benefits including pension scheme, bonus, generous holiday entitlement and private medical insurance - with flexible benefits available including season-ticket loans, cycle to work scheme and enhanced parental leave
- Open-plan workspaces and accessible facilities designed to inspire and support you. Our Nottingham head-office has a fully-serviced gym, subsidised restaurant, mindfulness and music rooms.
